The Space Between Stimulus and Response

Featured Image

As a working parent with young children, I know firsthand how challenging it can be to balance the demands of work and home life.  For many years, I found myself running into my day straight from waking up, feeling rushed and overwhelmed by the constant demands of my schedule.  As a result, I often felt like a pinball, reacting to each new stimulus without much thought or consideration.

It wasn't until I started practicing the concepts outlined in The 5 AM Club that I began to see a significant change in my daily resilience and ability to respond to situations as a leader.  By waking up early and dedicating time to exercise, meditation, and personal development, I found that I was able to create more space between stimulus and response.  This allowed me to approach each situation more clearly and intentionally, rather than simply reacting in the moment.

Of course, building these habits wasn't easy.  There were many mornings when the thought of waking up at 5 AM to exercise seemed daunting, and there were certainly days when I didn't feel like meditating or working on personal development. However, I found that the more I practiced these habits, the easier they became, and the more natural they felt.

Now, I can't imagine starting my day any other way.  I look forward to my morning routine as a time to focus on myself and prepare for the day ahead.  And, as a leader, I've found that my increased resilience has had a positive impact on my team as well.  By modeling the importance of self-care and personal development, I've been able to create a culture of mindfulness and intentionality in the workplace.

Overall, I highly recommend Choice Point and The 5 AM Club to anyone who is looking to improve their resilience, make more mindful choices, and create a better future for themselves and the world around them.  With dedication and commitment, these concepts can help us all become more intentional leaders and positive agents of change.
